The Province of Bohol celebrates their annual Ubi Festival this week, from December 18-20, 2024 in Tagbilaran City, with the theme “Tatak Ubi’ng Bol-anong, Palambuon.
The Department of Agriculture – Central Visayas (DA7), is one of the agencies supporting the festival, as Ubi is a priority and emerging commodity under the High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP).
Ubi (Purple Yam) is a staple food in Bohol and plays a crucial role in the region’s agricultural heritage. It is known to thrive in drought conditions and being readily available in the mountains, where Boholanos sought refuge during the Japanese, American, and Spanish occupations.
The festival is celebrated annually and shall be held every second week of December.
One of its remarkable events is the Search for the Ubi Festival Queen 2024 and Loon is one of the stunning and lovely candidates.
